cold rooms after adding insulation

Kevin is on to it. I would evaluate the venting.
A good place to start is the Gorton web site but also to to the on-line store here, pay a very modest price for a table of venting rates for just about all vents made. Money goes to a good cause and the resource is priceless.
As a test case, fire up the boiler and remove the air vent from that stubborn radiator, feel if the air comes out steadily or "pants". Panting would indicate some condensate or bare pipe along the way collapsing your steam. At least if you get a rush of air and then steam, that may tell you that your vent is either clogged or under-sized.
Many factors affect the system, insulation, your operating pressure, your thermostat room now being satisfied (perhaps with solar influence or not?)
All things being equal, I cannot imagine that the system performed well before, maybe you are just noticing it now due to higher expectations?

cold rooms after adding insulation
I had insulation blown in in my old house, but know the boiler (one pipe steam) doesnt run that much, because the house is more air tight. The problem that I have is that in the dinner room where the thermostat is located the temp is good as the set point in the thermostat but the 2 bedrooms in the same floor gets cold. The temporary solution that i found is to close the second radiator closed to the T stat so the room will gets cools quick and the bolier will run more often to heat the rooms. Before the insulation job my system was running almost perfect but of course i was losing all the heat trought the walls and ceilings. Now the house feels confortable except the 2bedrooms. Do I have to change the air valves on the radiators to balance the system again or just closed the second radiator closed to the termostat pemamently?.0 -
1st...
are your pipes insulated going to all rads? Thne figure out your venting...don't close rads. that will only make your heat time longer....0 -
balancing steam
Same thing happened to me when I insulated my home a few years ago with my steam system. You have to balance the system with larger air vents on the colder radiators and maybe even two air vents and if you don't have them install main vents for the mains in the basement.0 -
I would think the issue here is the 2 bedrooms are not adequately insulated. You button up the room where the stat is, but heat is still escaping in the bedrooms.
