It set e new high record for Denver Saturday (74 degrees) then then stormed Sunday to the tune of 6" of the white stuff in Denver, 16" 10 miles west of Denver.

Flood watch today with winter storm warning tonight and tomorrow! Forecast is for heavy rain and thunderstorms today (it's currently 60F) with temps dropping like a rock this afternoon. 1/4" or more of freezing rain this evening followed by an inch or so of sleet overnight and finally 3" or more of snow tomorrow.

We had no accumulating wintry precipitation until February. This will make our third ice storm in about 4 weeks and the cleanup still isn't complete from the first! City has been working furiously to get fallen trees out of drainage ditches. Large evergreens and pin oaks, magnolias, etc. are pretty much toast.

In the first storm, a big limb fell on the power lines leading to my rental house next door. The bare ground wire snapped and the mast snapped off at the meter base. Power wires intact but lying on the ground. Had to jury rig a neutral connection and couldn't get both an electrician and the utility company until last Friday--nearly three weeks after the storm! Utility wasn't incredibly happy with the jury rigged neutral, but given the circumstances the electrician and one of the linemen admitted they would have done the exact same thing.

    Global warming, eh?

This has been one of the snowiest winters I can remember in Michigan and temps have been below normal, too. It would be nice if some of this snow would melt into the Great Lakes and raise our water level a bit -- maybe just enough to slow down the 'global warming' encroachment.

P.S. -- I am SICK OF WINTER! Now I feel better.

    Wow!

Be sure to stay safe out there. Spring is coming. Really! We had a big cold Wind Storm Sat. It was miserable and dangereous, and today is supposed to be Sunny and 65. Go figure. Looking forward to it though.

By degree days, this has been the coldest winter for the 6 years I have decent records. Before I checked degree days I thought it was the warmest! Fewer cold snaps, but also fewer warm spells with general temps slightly below average.

At least my mod-con is thriving. It's spent much of the time humming along at or near minimum input with a supply temp mainly in the low 90s.

Did though up my reset target to about 140 @ 25 outside and brought the entire house up to 72F before, during and a couple days after each ice storm in the event of an extended power loss.

Not surprisingly, condensate production went down significantly as the house was being raised in temp even though the boiler was inputting at least 2 1/2 times more gas. Only after the room temp stabilized did condensate production rise but still not to the amount seen under same outside conditions with reset target around 100F at minimum input.
  • Global Warming

They now call it Climate Change. Some people say hotter summers and colder winters with more snow and rain. I saw a scientist on TV about 5 years ago and he explained the lack of ozone would allow more heat in from the summer sun, and it wouldn't keep the heat in as well in the winter, and we would have more hurricanes and floods. For a while it seemed like we were getting more hurricanes, but closer to home for me, we have had 100 year floods in my neighborhood for the last two years, with more snow up north than ever before, many people are already predicting floods for this year. We havn't had floods like this since 1936 and 1938, but if we have 3 hundred year floods 3 years in a row I may join the "Global Warming Crowd" Thanks, Bob Gagnon

    Spring Cancelled?

In Eastern Iowa we are having below zero lows forcast for later this week. Thats after highs in the 20's Sat and 50's Sun with thunder and lightening. In fact after a run Sunday I got out the snow blower to try and move a little snow away from my storage building. My sweet little bride thought I looked pretty silly in tennis shoes, shorts, and a sweatshirt blowing snow in the rain! Then I woke this morning to my driveway drifted shut for the umpteenth time this winter. (It only happened once last winter!) Did somebody cancel spring this year and not let me know????

I'm so ready for some warm weather!!!!
