Will an Indirect Water Heater Work Best?

Background: We have a 1920s house with a new Weil-McLain CGA-6 (83% AFUE) installed last year. This replaced an ancient 275K BTU boiler that had been converted from coal to oil to gas. We would have gone with a condensing boiler but price quotes were double for boiler and installation - $6K vs 12K! We now need to replace the hot water heater. Will an indirect fired heater be a good bet with this system? House is 2100 sq feet with 1800 sq basement, all heated by radiators. Basement radiators turned off (no zones) but will use someday as the plan is to rent out basement. Original wavy pane windows with old aluminum storms and some insulation. I like the idea of only one combustion device in the basement instead of a separate fired water heater, but want to make sure it is the best use of our resources. We are in the Asheville, NC area. Thank you.
