Residential Boiler Control

Is it overkill to use something like this in a residential setting? http://www.rdcontrolsystems.com/prod_steam.html
I am planning to use a 1/3, 2/3 size Smith G-8. I have single pipe steam. At the moment there is a Honeywell, high/low thermostat.
Is there really any savings using the controls? Can I stick with the simple timed thermostat and just set it and forget it like I always have? Will these control boxes just become a maintenance headache or are they pretty reliable? Is a control box more necessary when there are multiple boilers involved?
