oil fired using beckett af2 burner. i had a similar intermittent running problem on a similar setup about a month ago and using triangle tube technician we narrowed it down to a faulty relay, not the case here though.

    triangle tube woes....what to do??

ran into a triangle tube combination water heater the other day. customer reported intermittent operation. troubleshot the heck out of it. all electrical checked out, all limits and safeties, no loose wires to be found, boiler ran flawlessly for the 1.5 hours i was there. if there is nothing going wrong for me to fix, i can't fix anything. anyways.....customer calls back the next day and says the same thing is happening.......any ideas???? and.......this boiler is installed with no bypass piping of any sort and has one loop of 1/2" hepex run directly to the garage floor with no mixing device and no buffer/ bypass piping to protect the boiler. any bets on how long until the boiler is hit with a slug of cold garage radiant liquid and cracks??? just curious as to what i might tell the new home owner in a couple years when the boiler is spewing its guts onto the floor and they want a quote for replacement. anyways
    any thoughts appreciated.

call the factory in new jersey at 856-228-8881 ask for tech or ask for marty haurin. if the unit is not piped in correctly get a piping drawing and tell the home owner that the system was installed wrong and give them a price as to correct the problem before it gets worse. I is not the fault of the unit that it was installed wrong.

    If it has...

....a solenoid valve on the oil pump, the solenoid coil is your most likely suspect. Beckett had a known issue with these. So far I've had one happen to me. Popped the solenoid coil off, installed a new one, no more problems.

Thanks to Alan Mercurio for tipping me off to that, btw.

    Codes?

Is it tripping on some kind of high limit switch? Maybe with such little flow the boiler is over temping.
