    Lone Star State

I am going to Texas to help a very good friend with the remodeling of her new bread and breakfast. I have done all her work here in Milwaukee at her B&B and at several condos in an east Milwaukee (on the lake)high rise.

While not actually doing the physical work I am going to help her with layout, necessary permits and getting quotes. If anyone is familiar with Texas codes I need to know if there is a uniform statewide plumbing code or local/county type codes?????

Any help would be appreciated as I have not been south for 20 years. The break from this brutal winter and shortening up our dreary month of March will be bonuses.

    Thanks in advance
  • everything is big in Texas

I go down there almost every year to watch my beloved Wolves hockey team kick the Houston Aeros' butts...
Housings are built diffrent there, all hurranice strapped woods, water heaters installed in attic before roofs is in placed, no basements there, concrete have "pulled" rebars inside... Gettin bit by fire ants will make u want to go back up in winter... I'll be going to San Antonio and then to Houston and back to SA for hockey games and hopfully some golf games... When are ya going? And where?

    Texas code

    Rich,
I lived and worked in Houston back in the early 80's. Not sure if things are still the same, hard to believe how long ago that actually was.
But back then it was a Statewide code, in fact to sit for the journeymans test you had to travel to Austin.
Hope this meager & outdated info is of some help

i just moved back to maine from austin in oct. from what i saw while working there is the a/c and heating codes there are not enforced very hard. regulators in the attic not vented outside, tracpipe run up against the roof, stubbing a piece of b vent 1 foot out the roof and calling it good, etc etc. never once saw anyone with a copy of nfpa

    Plans Firmed up!

I will be going to a little town 30 miles east of San Antonio called Seguin. I will be back by Easter as that is a very important family holiday for us.

Hope to take in some of the sights and hook up with my niece who is a single parent(she lost her husband two years ago) Also a old fishing body lives north of San Antonio so I hope to visit with him.

My friend is having a hard time not only with finding contractors but also feels quality may be an issue.

Will keep you all informed about this adventure!

    Rich K.
