What if a contol did...

Had 18 relays (and expandable to more if needed), 2 0-10V, 0-20MA, 4-20MA, or PWM outputs, and 18 inputs 10KV resistive.

And you could designate what each of these relays do. For example you might have a house with 2 Mod/Cons, 2 Air Handlers, 2 cooling zones, 2 humidistat's, 2 humidifiers, and 12 RFH zones. Or maybe you have 1 boiler, 1 indirect water heater, 1 geothermal unit, and ERV, and 14 RFH zones.

And this all of these devices could be programmed from your laptop with simple drag down menus. And you could program in your own rules such as LIFO and FIFO or time delays.

This control would also have one or more central touch screens for the HO that can bring up any zone in the house and change the temp.

This control would also send text messages to your phone if anything goes wrong. It would also allow you to log in remotely and troubleshoot with all data recorded.

The HO could also open up their internet browser while on a business trip or vacation and get a snapshot of their house or turn on the heat.

Would you buy it? Would you pay say $3-5K?

  • well,

one of my neighbors paid X$ for his weekend home, and that's exactly what he does. turns on his radiant before he leaves to come out to the place

and, we have the ability to monitor/control one of our commercial customer's chiller operation

    Yes, I'll take two please....

Before purchasing equipment and controls, I am adamant knowing that it has been beta-tested and corrections/revisions have been made prior to mass production.

Living in the land of mergers and acquisistions, I would also like to see some longevity and stability in the company.

    Regards,

    PLC

Programmable Logic Controller(Industrial machine control computers).

    have be around for decades!

I'm designing with an Omron programable realy(ZEN controller) into boiler control system.

Allen Bradley has a large selection, as well as Siemens.

    Uponor

I think I saw something new at ASHRAE from Uponor that did just about all of that. It was CAT 5 wiring and they were saying you could turn on your toaster if you wanted via the internet.

I was looking at the new residential control and overhead part of a conversation on the commercial version, it looked real cool and sounded like it did just about everything you mentioned.

    I could me wrong though...

    Uponor

I just saw that new Uponor controller at the Iowa Heat Pump Assn's annual conference/ trade show. It'll do a lot but they didn't make any mention of milliamp or 0-10V DC outputs. I got the impression it was all on or off contacts that could be used to control boilers, heat pumps, pumps, etc. Also sounded like you could set it up to cycle boilers if using multi's. Lots of programmabilities. No mention was made of modulating outputs however.

Still looked like a nice control if you didn't need that.

Not a PLC at ALL. The logic is already programmed. A control not a programmable control.

We have a smart home company out here in the NW that is interested in building this platform. We have been consulting with them for a while.

They will actually listen and build what WE want. Not what they think we should have.

The prototype has been built and I am going to test it out in a month or so. As soon as the bugs are out it should become available soon if the demand is there.

    where is the flexibility?

if you can not program it?

added: I re-read your post above, sure sounds like a PLC to me.

The logic is already there. You can give it all the parameters. You just don't need to do the sub-routines and ladder logic that a PLC does.

It will do just about anything you could possibly think of with drag and drop menus. But it doesn't require a degree in electrical engineering and a UL panel shop.
