Check out this Brit playing the Orange Blossom Special on a pedal steel guitar. I've never heard it done like this.
Watch his eyebrows every time he pulls off a good riff. Awesome pickin'

    I have....

...come to appreciate good bluegrass more and more lately.

I'm not well versed enough to name artist names or anything, but have come to appreciate the music.

Thanks for posting that, Steve! That was pretty cool!

    Although

The first clip wasn't really "bluegrass", it was impressive nonetheless. For the accoustic side, listen to anything Jerry Douglas (Allison Kraus' band)plays..he has been called the Hendrix of the Dobro! I live in a bluegrass-rich area, have played the banjo and guitar for 20+ yrs, used to be in a band, but Arthur invaded my right hand, so I don't do it much anymore. For pedal steel, try to dig up some old Bud Issacs. He was the co-founder of Sho-Bud, a leading pedal steel mfr.

    I love bluegrass

I went to college in western MD in a little mountain town called Frostburg. There was a little tavern owned by the former no neck sheriff, a block away from my house. On Wednsday nights the old bluegrass musicians would come down out of the mountains and play impromtu bluegrass. Nothing organized. Just anyone could join in and they didn't mind us long haired college students coming and watching. There was a banjo, a fiddle a fellow who played left handed guitar, (not re-strung) and an 80 yr old virtuoso spoon player. My room mates and I became regulars. Home grown bluegrass. I've loved it ever since. I love the little smile on the pedal steel guitar players face. He knows he's making it look easy. I don't believe it is. :) WW

    Pickin' & Grinnin'

I've been pickin der banjo( and a little fiddle) for 40+ years. Love bluegrass & old-timey. There's a huge old-timey and bluegrass following in Seattle. At some of the gatherings, I met folks that I played with back in NY 30 years ago. It's a good way to stay sane. In college days, we used to play the bluegrass festivals during the summer in NC, Tennesee & Virginia. It was fun to comptete for the prize money...and meet and play with the local old-timers. Their stories were magical to hear around the campfires. Those were the days....

    Well by Golly!

I think we better have an acoustic Wetstock at some point in the future. One day talking about work and the next pickin' and grinnin'. What a widely varied bunch we are.

    how about WSM

You might want to listen to these Grand Ole Opry's.
< http://www.wsmonline.com/onair/archives.shtml > scroll down and pick a night. Seems Friday nights may have the older performers.

    Folk Festival

We're lucky enough to have the National Folk Festival here in Butte this July 11-13. Sounds like a pretty good time. Not really my typical music, but I know I'll be there since it's literally in my backyard.

    Colorado bluegrass

I sadly have to miss Wetstock because of a bluegrass festival in Durango, CO. www.durangomeltdown.com It's a good time and of course it's all indoors this time of year. One of the best bluegrass festival I know of is in my backyard, Rockygrass in Lyons, CO. http://www.bluegrass.com/rockygrass/ I've been going to it for about 20 years.

I'm a picker as well with 2 vintage Martin guitars, a 1958 D 28 and a 66' D 18. Incidently the best music you hear at bluegrass festival is in the campground.

Ron; how is WAMU's HD signal?

Where you live. Not great in Reston. I gave up on them after they moved all bluegrass to HD. Sirius much better.

in Charles County. The signal was pretty foul @ first. They've cleaned it up. Works better now. Some folks down in the Shenandoah have rigged rabbit ears & rooftop antennas.

Comes in L & C here on Columbia Road in DC.
