    injection pumping

Since March 1st, the ProMix controls are being phased out. Now there is a "climate control system".

In a nutshell, the control is the brains and there is communication between the control box, sensors, and relay boxes through CAT5 wiring. You figure out what you want to do, hook the proper sensors & valves up and program the control box appropriately.

In meeting with the rep, we went through the information he had available (he spent a week there learning about this and other things).

In his information he only had a mixing system using a 3-way valve with no mixing via a circulator. I asked him about it, he said he knew there was a way but he wasn't familiar so he called the Field Technical Representative for Uponor. Over the phone he said there is a way to do it, but he didn't have the information in front of him. This was on Feb 25th and I haven't heard from either one of them.

I e-mailed the rep Monday (3-3-08) to see if he found out anything. This morning I called him and he is out of town until Friday. I called Tech Support and that person said they are getting away from circs and using 3-way valves. I told him what the Rep and Field Tech Rep said, his reply was, "you need to speak with them, they would be the only ones who would know".

I just left a message with the Field Tech Rep. but in the meantime...

I figured in the literature, they would have had that scenario in it, since it wasn't, I figured it wasn't available. They both assured me it is available.

I like smart mixing using a standard circulator vs. a 3-way valve (that nobody stocks). Does anyone know of a way to do this with the new "Climate Control System"?

When in doubt, go to "The Wall" - I figured if anyone knows, someone here would know.

I realize I can use a tekmar control, or other options, but I have used Uponor for along time and have a good relationship with them/like to use them.

    Thanks in advance!

    Climate Control - Multifunction

    Bobby-

The CCM (Climate Control - Multifunction) can do injection mixing. It is a simple choice in the programming of the unit when you are setting up a mix device. The control gives you the choice of Valve or Pump.

There are several reasons you see may some changes or recommendations about using a mix valve rather than injection pumping. We are looking into the future of electrical consumption in the homes being built today. Alot of customers are looking into radiant heating for some energy savings, but when it comes to the electrical consumption, I would like to use a 24V valve rather than a 120V circ.

This is a really powerful controller, and can handle just about any scenario you can throw at it, to sum it up, yes we can still do injection mixing, or valve mixing (almost any 24V mixing valve can be used).

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me either here, via email, or through Uponor directly.

Also, with all of the new mod/con boilers out there, choices can be overwhelming. If you remember, injection works great when there is a large temp difference between the boiler supply temp and the radiant return temperature. With that said, using a mod/con, you can lower the supply water temp to close the radiant supply water temp and then the "Magic of Delta T" is now not as powerful.

I look at mixing valve as a more universal way of mixing for a radiant system no matter what type, style, or brand of boiler you use. Use the different types of boilers as upgrades to the system without having to change the way the mechanical room piping is performed
