    Steam Heat problems

I have some minor steam heat problems that may one day be major. I contacted a steam heat proffessional last December, that was recommended by Dan Holohan, via phone and email. He returned my call a few weeks later but I never heard from him again.

    I will appreciate your help.

1)The radiaitor in one of the bedrooms does not get as hot as the other radiators. I did place an air vent with a large hole on the top but that did not help. I replaced the valve last November because steam would come out of the old valve but the radiator did heat well. Before I placed the new valve on the pipe I noticed aboout 7 inches down, the pipe had sdeiment all around it. I used a straw to touch it and it was totally blocked. I did not do anything at that point to loosen the sediment.

How do I get rid of the sediment?

I did pour 2 bottles of vinegar in the boiler to clean the system. I noticed the water was dirtier for a cuple of weeks and I flushed the boiler more often.

George, you might want to start a new thread asking for assistance in solving your problem, without any of the past history.

I don't see anything positive in your first paragraph that is going to motivate these PRO'S to respond.

Only a HO here, but you might be better served with a new thread.

    Thanks for the advice.
To add a little more detail to what happened.
I agreed to have the steam heat pro to come to my house and he would conduct a steam heating consultation for $300.00 and any work after that would be deducted from that amount.
I sent him an email and a phone message.

  • George does have a point

about contractors who advertise here not responding. I've always appreciated the pros responses to questions here and that is why I decided to give the pros the first shot at any work I have. Unfortunately only one pro responded but there was never any follow up. It's nice to see that contractors are really busy. The sad thing was that I had to give a big job to someone not referred on this site. I guess thats business though
