Need advice on Radiant Heat

Member Posts: 35
I have been hired to install a boiler and controls on an owner installed radiant system. He installed his own pex in the slab staple up under the floor. He has it all brought back to 4 wirsbo manifolds. I am hired to install the boiler, pumps and controls with a domestic loop. I have done radiant before but I am looking for some direction. Is anyone out there that can send me down the right path.

You need to do a room by room heat load calculation to make sure what's in there will work before you touch it. Also, you'll need it to figure out what water temperatures you'll need for the slab and the staple up.
Then, you can decide how many mix temperatures you need and make sure zoning is appropriate.
These days we're strongly favoring motorized mixing valves over injection pumping; I'd do a reset temp for the staple up, but if the slab temp is low enough I might do "dial a temp" tempering valve for that, with a pump pulling out of course.
everything starts with the load calc though. You'll need a decent radiant design manual or software as well to make sure of the load calculation figures though.0
