I noticed that some cement has fallen away from the flue pipe penetration into my masonry chimney. Is there a specific heat resistant cement to seal this vent penetration?

There was an error rendering this rich post.

  • It's called,,,

Furnace cement. Not sure where you might be able to get it in your area.

    struck o lite

Home depot has it gypsom, gyp creat or strock o lite it's all the same thing. It comes in a big bag its the first coat for plaster. Add some sand and its good for big holes. Or don't add sand it works good around the flue pipe because it will not burn.

    There is a right way...

    The right way....

Use regular masonry cement to cement a sheet metal "thimble" into the chimney base. Then the breech pipe will fit into the thimble nice and neatly.

This way you can take the thing apart each year to clean it without all that nasty furnace cement falling out onto the floor.

DO NOT use furncae cement unless you hate for heating guy. It dries and becomes razor sharp. There is a product called stick tite, much nicer to furnace guy and can be reused. If that is not available, regular mortar will work fine. Furnae cement is for furnaces and not for chimneies.
