Reflectix under slab WW

omission was not intentional. I thought my email address and link to our web site for further information was disclosure enough.

When ever possible or practical, I find it important to educate folks on the proper use and type of insulation to use for their specific needs. Just getting Americans to want to use any insulation is tough.

I do agree with you that disclosure is important. In most posts I read it's hard to tell if someone is a Home Owner, Contractor, Wholesaler or Rep.

    I have a customer

who is concerned with doing a good job of insulating his slab for a radiant floor project. He is already putting 2 inch extruded polystyrene under and around the slab, but in addition has been told he would benefit from putting some reflectix bubble wrap on top of the 2 inch styrofoam. I've told him he would not benefit from this, and he would like to educate himself on the subject. Could some of you relate your knowledge on the subject and mayby share some links relating to this? He will be looking in later to see what folks here have to say. Thank you in advance. Wayco Wayne

    WW you are correct.

the only benefit would be xtra vapor barrier. Robert Bean @ healthy heating.com has a link to a great article of the bubble foil scam....kpc

    Insulation info...

There is plenty of confusing info out there. Check out www.rima.net the reflective insulation manufactures assoc. and see what they say about their own insulation values.

Many belive that xps is best because they have been doing it for 20 years. Find out why that may not be best. http://www.epsmolders.org/4-rval.html#In-Service R-Values

Don't forget about the labor to install these. Simplify your life. www.crete-heat.com

I have more info available on this subject but I'm not much of a book writer. We have had extensive and expensive independant testing done to verify the preformance of Crete-Heat. Please contact me directly if this is not enough info.

    Hey Don

Thanks for the links. The RIMA handbook is very informative. I scanned it and did not see any recommendations or illustrations using the product under slabs.

    crete heat ins

Don, Isn't crete heat XPS under the plastic cover? Or is EPS? Doesn't EPS (if that's what it is) have a lower insulating value? I've seen products like this before and except for the higher price they look interesting.

I do question your implication regarding quicker install times. How do you figure? I gotta believe there's still going to be trimming of the panels involved, just smaller panels to trim.

    Crete-Heat is..

EPS insulation. Not sure what you mean by lower R-Value. Lower than what? Crete-Heat 2" is R-10. Crete-Heat installs faster because it combines 3-4 steps in one process. It's insulation, tube holder and vapor barrier in one product. in most cases eliminating wire all together. Factoring all this in, it is less money than most traditional methods of installation.

Hope this helps, more complete details are on the web site.

    Don

You should identify yourself as working for the Crete-Heat company.

Not knocking the product, I like it, but full disclosure is important.

    Agreed

    No problem.

E-mail addresses don't show unless you reply and look for it.

Endorsements from contractors carry more weight than from factory personnel or distributors.

It sure can be hard to distinguish the "internet experts" from the "everyday experts" :)
