Another amazing guitarist has passed. 41 Years old. If you ever saw him, was he ever amazing. Blind and playingthe guitar laying on his lap, he could play so fast I was suprised that I never saw smoke...

  • Just heard,

a very sad loss indeed, a truly awesome musician. I was always partial to Confidence Man,, great song.
Too bad he and Colin James never got together, that would have been awesome X2.

    Bummer

Dude screamed with a very unorthodox playing style. The only bright spot in the bad movie "Road House" was him being the bar band. Nice rendition of Roadhouse Blues... RIP

    he rocked

Saw him live in the late 80s or early 90s when he opened at a Little Feat show. He joined the Feat during their closing couple numbers and enores. Awesome stuff. He was an amazing talent. Sorry to find he's gone.

    innovative style -

due to size and his blindness. Taught himself to play when he was very young - could not hold the git box correctly so he laid it on his knees. Never changed his style. The cancer that took his sight - eventually took him as well. And yes - Roadhouse was a shining moment.

    Jeff Healey's passionate playing

Was never more evident than on his cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" This song seems to bring out the best in guitar players...

    Jeff Healy

In recent years Jeff Healy has also had a group called "Jeff Healy and the Jazz Wizards" wherein Jeff is an accomplished trumpet player. They were a regular part of the jazz circuit here in Toronto, his hometown. Jeff has also hosted a regular Monday night radio program on Canada's premier jazz station 91.1 CJRT which is called "My Kind Of Jazz", where he expounds on his incredible knowledge of jazz from 1900 to 1930 and plays his collection of 78s. "Healy's" entertainment lounge is across the street from Wayne Gretsky's Bar and Grill in downtown toronto, right beside Second City (original venue of John Candy, Dan Ackroyd etc.) and just a stone's throw from SkyDome where the Blue Jays play.

There was a lot more to the guy than amazing guitar playing. He will be sadly missed.
