    Need.......

Something to set back at night, monitor return (wet) for switching into hi fire, and some other bells and whistles. Any recommendations? This building is a VERY poorly insulated as far as where the return lined go up to the 8th floor. Having problems with freezing at sporadic times and in different areas.

    steam control

TEKMAR makes great stuff but the control mentioned in the other post only does cycling control.....controls how long the boiler runs dependent on outdoor temp. To control lo/hi fire and other set points, you need to go to Heattimer controls, they make great stuff as well.

Switching a steam boiler from high to low fire

can be done with a Vaporstat.

Basically, when the system's pickup factor is satisfied, you no longer need to keep generating that extra heat. The system pressure will start to build and when it hits 2-3 ounces or so, the Vaporstat switches the burner to low fire. Then it simmers along without the constant stops and starts you see on a single-rate burner setup, until the call for heat is over.

    The Tekmar 269

control (& hopefully the 279) has been bullet proof since we started using them. Can't say the same for Heat-Timer.
