with all the pex today this question might be a little late but I would like to get everybody's opinion on L or M copper for hot water fin tube baseboard piping and reasons for the choice?

M is fine...
L would be a waste of money...heat is a closed system.0 -
Limited velocity & low pressure
Look at the thickness of fintube itself. It's thinner than M. Like previously said, L is a waste.0 -
L vs M copper tubing
L tubing is thicker because it us used mostly on potable water. M tubing is used on heating because the system is closed and you are not always using or putting in new fresh water that could effect the copper pipe. You should look at a product called fostapex from viega for heating systems and it can also be used on potable water plumbing systems. It is a full lenght of pex tubing with aluminum and a outer pe cover. installs similar to both copper and pex tubing. no expansion like pex tubing when running hot water through it and it will not droop like pex tubing. aluminum offers the oxygen barrier and gives it rigidity. comes in 20' strait lengths or 150' rolls. check it out. oh it cost less than L or M copper tubing and more than regular pex or radiant pex tubing. http://www.viega-na.com/0 -
it could be a waste if -
water treatment and pH is monitored impeccably. M has a higher zinc percentage (for stiffness) which leaches out rapidly if pH is incorrect. Hence the pin holes we have to deal with from time to time.0
