The last I new the boiler code in MA. required all components to be rated 250 F. Vic I beleive is rated less than that 220?? or something??.

Then I was told by a state inspector that vic was ok but can not be used on "the first conection" at the boiler.

Other than that we have used vic on heating with no problems.

    Vic

We use vic on our larger HW boiler installs. No problem, the only thing I would stay away from is the reducing clamps. We have had problems with leaks showing up after a period of time. Now we only use a true reducing coupling.

Pay attention to the type of clamps you use and the chemicals that may be in the system. The rubbers are rated for different chemicals as well as temperatures.

    Vic fittings

the Mass Dept of public safety states the following. I would think this covers vic fittings.

    14.02: Board Interpretations

    (4) June 23, 2003 – Use of specialty clamped pipe fittings

The Board has taken the position regarding the use of specialty clamped pipe fittings and will allow their use provided they meet the temperature and pressure requirements of the code. In cases where the gasket material does not meet the temperature range of the boiler, the high temperature limit shall be turned down to meet the temperature limitations of the clamped fitting. If the temperature limit is dialed back, the maximum temperature setting must be indicated on the certificate of inspection.
