a higher than normal water level can be a problem, like water carry over, steam banging to name a couple. you would have to check the Mfg. listing for your specific boiler. Leaks should be addressed as soon as practical, depending on location and severity. pm2817@aol.com

Is it a problem to have water level 2 inches above \"normal\"

The boiler at our neighborhood club (AO Smith 5GPM Capacity Steamer) has a water level that is 2-inches above the "normal" line on the boiler/watch glass. It appears that the pump that brings condensate in from a tank cycles on before it should, so the water level is basically always at that level. Should this be repaired ($$) or is it OK?

Next question: when I was watching the boiler tonight, I was surprised how long it ran. I then noticed that the pressure relief valve was releasing a very gentle but steady flow of steam. Is this the reason pressure is not building?

Final question: There is a drip from a big valve (6-inch pipe) on the ceiling, maybe one drip every minute. Should this be addressed immediately?

The burner burns 2.75GPM, so wasting oil wastes big money.
