Utica steam boiler call for heat problems

Have a gas fired steam Utica boiler that cuts out a lot with no response when there is a call for heat. The usual quick fix that worked for the past year was to turn the power off/on which somehow started the system back up. This would last several weeks before having to do it again. This fix barely works anymore and has to be done numerous times before the boiler will kick in. I checked all electrical connections (transformer/low water cut off/ safety systems) with the green light lit for safe operation. I have also jumped the thermostat connections which rules out a faulty thermostat. I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. Any help greatly appreciated.....

If it was the low water cutout probe, or the automatic-vent damper, wouldn't that trigger the safety shutoff system which would then indicate a red trouble signal on the trouble indicator?

If you're thinking of

the red light on the McDonnell & Miller unit on the front of the boiler, the answer is no. This device is a low-water cutoff, and that light goes on to indicate that the boiler is low on water. The stack damper and pressuretrol have no connection to this light.

Time to call a pro, this may involve one of the safety switches (there are several on that model boiler) so if one of them is tripping we need to know why.
