e-boilers
I've just started looking at e-boilers for a 1000 sq ft shop with radiant slab that I'm buiding. NG isn't available, I don't want oil so that leaves LP and electric.
Electric is starting to make sense to me - lower cost and simplified installation and modulation/outdoor reset. My heat loss comes in at 33,000 btu - exactly a 10kw boiler.
Based on electric rate of 10c/kw-hr and LP at $3.50/gal, electric comes out cheaper (!?) (using 100% elec eff vs 93% for LP). Our electric rates will be increasing soon (what isn't) but will they surpass LP by an appreciable amount, who knows?
So, I have no answers to your query, but would also appreciate any thoughts and comments from the knowledgeable gentlemen (and ladies) of the Wall.0 -
good for the right application
I've installed quite a few, installation is simple and quite a bit cheaper than anything else, definitely their selling point. Like any low mass boiler they are quite sensitive to flow, especially the tube type like Argo's. If the system is zoned a primary/secondary piping arrangement works well and/or a pressure bypass too. Take advantage of any that employ an outdoor reset control, while usually crude they save a bit of time/money on the install.0
