getting a grip on solar

... one's solar education, get a copy of "A Golden Thread" By Butti and Perlin. I like "Sunspots" by Steve Baer too. Look in www.addall.com. Getting a little history and thinking around solar will help you in unexpected ways. I learned that alcohol was use as a heat transfer fluid in the 1920s and that it has some advantages over glycol. I'm running 50% vodka in my water and space heating system and it works nicely ;~)

Looking for good reading materials / schematics of typical solar systems (NOT the milky way), for DHW and heat applications. I am getting more & more interested in this, and am curious about temps of 250*+ and 40#+ pressures and how to tame them into existing systems. I have decided it is something I would like to really learn about, even if my state severly limits the amount you can have in your yard or on the roof...

My contractor training program will be based on this i-dronics issue. As I'm sure many others will be also.

Watch for a webinar on solar coming up soon sponsored by Caleffi.

    Solar reading

Tom Lane's "Lessons Learned" - Planning & Installing Solar Thermal Systems (@ hydronicpros.com), Bob Ramlow's Solar Heating book. I find these all good to begin a solar education (self). :)

    \"Active Solar Heating

New Opportunities for the Hydronic Professional"

Will be presented by John Sigenthaler via PM Engineer mag and Caleffi on May 1 at 1:00 ET.

This should be an excellent and timely show.
