I'm told that the boiler has sufficient capacity to handle the space.

    Creative Solution?

    All,

I've got a small box colonial that is currently run with steam heat (I love it). The boiler is a 6 year old Weil McClain "Gold" with 125,000BTU capacity.

    The problem:
I've put an addition on the home adding from the center of the house to the left a 22'X 24' 2 story addition (basement and walk up attic not included). Also directly behind the house I've added an 11'X14' again 4 stories with an open stairwell to the basement (this basement area will be separated from the 22' X24" basement area). I can provide PDF of layout. The walls (dining room currently) are ready to be completely removed to open into this new area.

I've had a hydro air system installed (85,000BTU) in the attic that is planned to supply the second floor(bedrooms and 1 bath)with heat and AC. Also, this system has ducts that run to the 1st floor and will (hopfully) trickle heat and provide AC. The plan was to add roughly 50" of baseboard to the first floor and leave my exsisting steam (I'm having a tough time letting go).

Currently I have 1 thermostat that controlls the steam. I've added 2 new locations for thermostats (1st and 2nd floors). 1st floor would run the baseboard and the 2nd the hydro-air.

    The question:
What's the best way to tie into the boiler?
I was planning (don't know how yet) to pull off the "mud side" and "somehow" mix and pump to the 1st floor new baseboard and "somehow" to the attic hydro-air system.

Any help would be appreciated the plaster is coming soon!

    Thanks All,
    Todd B.

done a heat-loss, to see if the existing boiler will handle the additional load?
