Boiler Replacement Help!
I need help understanding some bids for replacement of our Weil McLain LP gas boiler with a Buderus wall mount. Contractor A bid $14K to replace existing with a wall mount Buderus with Logamatic control /outdoor reset and replacement of existing Phase 3 hot water tank.
Contractor B says $8K,leave Phase3 (lifetime warranty?)and says it comes with Logamatic control. It doesn't seem to come packaged that way from the manufacturer as far as I can tell. I also see much discussion about different "burners". Can you help me understand the proper setup and recommended companion equipment for Buderus 142 wall mount. House is 3100sf located in CT. Currently we have 4 zones for heat and a fifth for DHW. A technical discussion will not help me as I am a novice, just enough information to know what I need to have installed in order for it to work efficiently.
Many Thanks if you can clear this up for me.

to me it sounds....
like one contractor sees Sawzall do it right the other thinks what he is looking at is ok and can be worked around.
with out a picture of the existing mech room i would probably go sight unseen with the guy who sees the system that exists as an impediment to deliver you your best value.
i tend to go with Jim's idea on that too.0 -
The GB....
Has all its own controls built in, or added on if you wish. They come with the outdoor reset control from the factory (AM-10)Or you can get the now optional indoor reset control BC-10. All operating controls are internal and proprietary for this boiler. Hope this helped. Chris0 -

Bill - The GA124 is a bit different than the GB142. In my opinion, I would install the GB142.
The GB142 now comes with the logamatic included. You won't need to use a zone panel to prioritize domestic hot water if you use the GB142 control to do it.

Thanks
Thank you for the information. Contractor B told me last night that his price is $7500. He will also replace the current electrically operated zone valves with a "pumping station". His opinion is that given the size of the house and that the equipment is in the basement, a pumping station will operate the new system more efficiently. Does this sound right? His price includes a manifold pump panel. He also confirms that the A-10(?) control that comes with the GB12 replaces the need for the Logamatic control. Does this sound like a good price? I am leaning toward doing the job with him. He has recently installed the same setup at his own home and has invited me to take a look.
Thanks again for all your opinions...0 -
one HO to another
You should definitely go look at his system as that is his work at its best. Most of the extras you mention are taken care of with the new mod cons. Also do your own heat loss calc to see what you need. The old system apparently worked fine as you did not mention you have been cold for years.0
