radiator air vents

Thanks. I guess my first option is to replace the air vent? this should take care of the drips that are coming out of the main?

Should I try lowering the pressure on the Pressuretrol?

the boiler is a new install and the water in the gauge looks pretty clear.

    main air vent-please help

hi everyone. I am getting a lot of hissing noise from the main air vent in the basement. I went to check on it last night and noticed that little drops of water is coming out of the main air vent.

The hissing can be due to debree, but what is causing the water to come out. Its not excessive, but im sure its enough to cause damage in the long run.

Will cleaning or replacing the air vent(bell shaped ones) rid the hissing and leak?

    PLEASE HELP.
    I appreciate your guidance.

It could be that you don't have enough venting, the pressure is too high, or the boiler water is not clean. The vent could also be old enough to replace. Cleaning an older vent that has build-up in a acidic solution most likely won't resurrect it back to it's former glory.
  • Make sure

you use the proper size vent. Don't simply get the same size without checking. Main vent sizing is critical to efficient system operation.

Measure the length and diameter of the steam main and tell us what make and model the current vent is. We can tell you what you need. If there is more than one steam main, check them all.

Steamhead-I will check tonight and get back to you.
From what i can tell, there is only 1 main in the basement as it is the only one hissing.

So from your professional exeperience, do you think the vent is bad which is why it is causing it to drip?
or is it too much pressure from my boiler?

im just trying to pinpoint the problem...
    Many Thanks.
  • The vent might be bad

or there might be dirt caught in it, or something else. But if it's the wrong size, the thing to do is replace it.
