Yes the vent temp. needs to be kept just right. by placing a coil in the vent one could open a can of worms. Flue gas Condensation. Possible corrosion of vent/ boiler. So if you "Control" this extraction Maybe you can do it??? Maybe you should Call the manufacture on this!.

  • Installing Heat exhanger in outside wood Boiler Chimney

What do you guys think.I have an OWB for four years now.I am thinking about installing a heat exchanger in the stack pipe coming out of the wood boiler.Iwas thinking of bending some soft copper tubing aound a smaller pipe so that it would fit down the stack and then tying it into the return line of the wood boiler? thanks.

    can work, depends

if you are burning properly seasoned wood, creosote is minimal to zero. if your condensate does not drain back into the boiler, another plus. if the above questions are no, then you're in for a mess.

my study case is a woodstove, single wall(steel) vent all the way up and outside, burn quality dried wood. have measured flue gases at 70F, lots of condensation, lots of corrosion, far amount of ash, but none in the stove itself.

not something thats easily left un-watched.

On second thought, you may be headed in the wrong direction too. often you could be further cooling your return water and heating the flue. you would have to monitor your flue temps and your return water temps at the same time to insure flue temps are always above water temps.

whats your return water temps? hard to say if you could really gain anything here?
