Going Fishing

Asking a question here on the wall or any other site for that matter is like going fishing. You don't always get a bite or catch the fish you want. People who fish a lot don't quit just because they don't get a bite that day. They try again some other time.
So a guy on another post, I think he said he was a home owner, won't ask questions because of HO and DIY bashing. That's too bad. I am a hack professional, I ask questions and sometimes receive no answers and often not the answer I want to hear. It doesn't stop me from asking again.
The hire a pro answer often seems lame. Not all pros are equal some are better than others. I guess word of mouth and referral are the best way to find someone.
In my youth I recall having a problem with something and the supply house manager suggested I ask Mr. X, a veteran contractor. He turned his back and walked away.
So after that I learned that to get an answer you have to ask the question the right way. Contractor X was a bit of a jerk, he is dead now. I have found in this trade if you ask sincerely and ask the right person that person will go out his way to answer your question.
Sometimes people are just lazy or cheap and trying find a quick way out. Those questions are annoying. Nobody gets paid to share advice here. You gotta take stuff for what it's worth. Some advice is good, some not so good.
This was some what of a social club for contractors in the early wild west days. It wasn't so sensitive or politically correct. You never know what type of thread will thrive, or which will fizzle out. Sometimes human nature and ego prevails and products, manufacturers, HO's and DIY's get bashed.
Me and a co-worker spent the day repiping a boiler we lost to the low bidder. Human nature, the general public always wants to save money. It would have been cheaper if we had done it in the first place.

Science Guy...
I guess that sometimes it's a matter of trying not got get the person asking the question Killed! Ask a Pro as a response is usually a response to have that person hire a pro, due to the fact that it is a dangerous job, (potentially) if done incorrectly. Don't forget about the politically incorrect law suit's.
We all have our reasons for responding or not, and believe it or not we all have a life. I am glad you brought this up because I have also heard bad reviews on responses that the wall gives. I personally try and if I think it's above John Doe's head (As I feel it is) I will state the same old, Find a pro.
I didn't train in this field for 24 years to think everyone can do the problem like a pro and safety is my main concern. I would feel so bad if in any way I misled or something was misinterpreted incorrectly. SO....Don't take it to heart. I think we all forget that this is a HELP site, Not a be all to end all solution site.

One more thing: Rudeness is inexcusable and nice people are harder to find. Nobody knows everything!!!
