Should have sold them a new unit.

Anything older then ten years old get a new blower wheel along with a motor.

You could always do damage control and offer to roll the cost over into a service agreement.

Both option is a loss however,it help burnden the load on both sides. After all it is the owner equipment.

    Is it the same repair??

You replace a blower motor, restart the unit and check it's operation, finding all is well. The customer calls back ONE MONTH later stating the unit is vibrating like crazy. Go back to find the blower wheel is cracked and out of balance, replace, restart and check.

The customer is peeved, claims this is the same repair.
What say the wisdom of the Wall???

    Thanks

how much do you like this customer?

depends..my customers are mostly word of mouth and seem to all know each other..i'd replace it at no charge just to squash any bad vibes since everyone in my normal stomping grounds seems to know each other..it puts me in an awkward situation at times..i've replaced many things i shouldn't really have had to eaten..but the good word spreads just as well as the bad word..

eat the labor, charge for the parts. Explain to them that this sometimes occurrs after blower motor work. Then tell them you will gladly eat the labor and they will only be charged for the parts to replace blower wheel.

I tell all customers when i change blower wheel, that this might happen, and if it does in the near future, i.e. 90 days, I will replace wheel for cost of part or I can change now while I am there.

    I agree with 3lees

That is how I handle these situations. Should have caught it on 1st call when we were there. My .02 worth Tim
Side note: there is a good chance set screw came loose and this caused it also.

    Blower wheel

As a HO after rereading your post (I was ready to shoot my mouth off too quickly) I think I agree with 3lees the most. I think most would agree to have the work done up front. This customer is probably peeved (I am assuming here) because it's taking twice to fix what is they are perceiving a bad, incomplete or uninformed job. *Remember I NOT questioning your abilities, etc.* You know your customers so learn from it - as you obviously wanted to because you brought it up here. As I have said before - everyone eats poop once in awhile...
