wellll maybe you should ask the orig. Installer for the Heatloss/Sytem design. And no, the tile should not crack unless you are installing the plates in a retro and the staples are to long. If he is talking about the heat making it Crack I must lol. BTW what is you primary tube spacing?(Center to center tube space)?Richard from Heatmeister.

metal tracking under floor joist
Has anyone heard of this, I noticed under my floor joist that two areas of my pex tubing radiant heat system didn't have the metal tracks that the tubing runs through. I questioned my plumber and this was his comment, "well you really don't want to put it under ceramic tile, it will get to hot and crack!" So I asked him why it was placed under my kitchen that has porcelian tile. This is the only answer I got, "uum, I don't know why this was put there." Yes, you have figured it out that I am the same person that asked about the insulation under the radiant heat. My big question is, does anyone think my heating system was no properly installed? I am trying to find enough info to approach the plumber and gc to prove neglect, I belief short-cuts were taken. By the way, I have a certified radiant heat installer coming to look at the system today.0 -
I really don't think a heat loss design plan was even done, I don't recall the plumber or gc saying anything about it. As far as the center to center, I will respond to that after I talk to the certified guy coming today.0 -
BS'd
Me thinks your being handed a lot of BS by your plumber and GC.We install under floor radiant under tiled floors all the time, and rug and hardwood floors, never seen any cracks caused by the heat.

I have asked the installer to provide the heat loss design, he has failed to do so. Also, he gave me the name of the company that he claims did the design. I spoke with the guy from the company that supposedly did the design. He would not say he did the design, but did answer a few questions that I had about the heating system. Basically trying to defend the system. However, he did tell me he thought that he had already shredded the design, but he would answer any questions for the designer and gc. So, I do not have the heat loss design. What should I do? I am meeting with my lawyer on March 7. The following items were found wrong with my sytem by a hydronics professional:
1. No floor insulation to stop downward loss
2. Heat emission plates are missing in many areas
3. Manifolds need to be balanced
4. Temperature guages need to set proper outgoing water
temperatures
5. Two maifolds fed with one circulator
Please respond.

back up...
the system can still work w/o some of these things...The first thing that needs to be done is the insulation. Waht did the GC say about that? How many plates are missing? Depending on the design you can feed two manifolds w/ one circ...as to the balance...can't do that untill the insulation is in. NO designer I know of would throw away a design....my designer has a bunch from YEARS back....kpc0 -
