I was told that you shouldn't really shut down a oil boiler totally during the off season because it will shorten the life of the boiler by either leading to cracks or problems with the seals. is this true? and do the same rules apply to gas fired boilers?

    NOT Working!!

And another Fact: The Most efficient boiler is a Boiler that is not running.Or My wolf hybrid is great...Especially when she is Sleeping.... Got a funny story with the Most efficient boiler:

After Installing a Tekmar control in a retrofit application that was Based on Outdoor reset, I've got a call from the Customer complaining that the Boiler Was Not Working!!

Soo i jumped in my truck and Hauled my butt to the"Problem".. I was Troubleshooting and trying to find out what it was that was no working.....Going thru all the settings and the Install..

After a little while i could not find anything that would or could be a "Problem" i turned to the Customer and ask him what made him think that the boiler was "Not working"...
He then said that he just can't hear the boiler working all the time anymore and figured that it was Not working!!

I then asked him if the House was Comfortable at which he replied yes..

I then Explained to him that: the most efficient boiler is a boiler that is not running all the time and that this is the reason why I make the "Big bucks"...so he can save some Green stuff.. We both Had a little Laugh...

Just exercise it once and a while in the summer if it is not hooked up to you domestic hot water production, so that your pumps do not "Get stuck" and "burn out"!

SOO There are controls that will do this (Exercise your circ pumps )and more to also lower your Energy consumption! But if you are used to the "White noise" it may seem a little "Lonely" in your Mech room area and i think that Wally world sells some kinda babbeling Brook "White noise" Generators that you may install with a Tekmar control so that the transition is not so bad...Just joking,

    dissagree

there are boilers that are designed to be cold and then there are boilers that will leak eventually when they get cold... if your boiler is designed to maintain temp. then it should maintain temp. just lower the aquastat settings... but then again with in time you will see your boiler leak at the coil plate if there is one, circ flanges even sections... seing is believing my friend good luck
