    Boiler cycle times frequent

Our new burnham 206h boiler seems to turn on and off sometimes every 4-5 minutes. Not from themostat claa but from the high limit switch. Can you guys start directing me into what this might be, or what other info I can provide to diagnose. We had a heat loss done. The differential between the supply and return when the boiler gets up to temp is about 18-19 degrees. Yet its seems as though it cools down pretty as the circulator keeps moving it. Too small a boiler? Too many convectors? Too much piping? The house has 19 convectors, in monoflo style design. It is one zone right now. In the spring it will be further zoned out. It was also suggested that for this year the larger red B & G 100 pump be used instead of the 007 which came with it.
  • Actually

    B&G 100 = Taco 0010. But many times the 007 is oversized.

    Derheatmeister,

By emitters I assume you mean convectors? There are 19 in total. The house is 50 years old but I was able to get the specs on all the convectors from the manufacturer. I can get pics also for you. Would you need pipe sizes and lengths?

    Also I see someone also posted a b&g 100 = a taco 010.

Lets say the pump is moving the water too fast would that mean i'm not getting the full benefit of extacting the heat?

    sizing circulators

I agree with Derheatmeister, you will need to know what the load is to determine flow rate. Taco released an excellent document TD10 to help size circulators; for your reference I attached a copy. If you have a problem opening the document you can visit www.taco-hvac.com and populate the search engine with TD10 to query. Simple calculation works great; gpm = load/delta T x 500. The 0010 has similar performance characteristics as the B & G, and the Taco 100 series. A lot of technicians use the Taco 007 because it's curve is similar to the 0010, but slightly less capacity. In most cases it works just fine.
