indirect water heater problem

Hi Jim, don't know if this applies to your situation.I recently had a new gas-fired boiler installed with a SS Ultra indirect tank. The problem was every couple or three weeks,I would get into the shower first thing in the morning and have hot water for about 4 minutes then ice cold. The hot water would recover eventually. I had a tech check out the system and he found nothing amiss. He cranked up the aqua-stat a bit and all was good for a couple of weeks. Problem happened again.
I decided to try heavily insulating the supply and return pipes from the boiler. Since doing this, I've had no more cold shower problems.

indirect water heater problem
I have a buderus 2107 control with a triangle tube tr 36 tank making hot water . The problem is the sensor location in the well. I started with sensor at the bottom then i lift it midway then i sealed the well and still cant get the tank to come out of priority. Will run great for a few days and then cust. calls for no heat. I have check sensor and all is good. I am lost here please help .0 -
indirect problem
Roland thank you for your reply .I have already insulated the hot & cold water line from day 1 .I will be installing a domestic mixing valve as per code and try taking control out of priority , didn't do original piping only added 2107 to existing boiler & indirect . First time i have had an issue with this type of set up before .I know stratification has something to do with it .I will keep you posted . I have been talking to buderus & triangle tube to try & figure this out .

I recently had a similar problem. I won't go into the details because they deserve a thread of their own, but suffice to say, I finally solved it by doing what I was trying to avoid: cutting out the supply, return and recirc connections to find out where the dip tube was improperly placed.
As you may well know, there isn't much to go wrong with indirects.
The problems are usually related to "stacking" or pilot error.

Jim,
I am not familar with the TT tank, so this may sound dumb, but what do you mean you set the sensor on the bottom? Does it have an average immersion well like most tanks a couple of feet from the bottom of the heater? How old is the tank? Is it possible there could be a coating covering the brass well and not letting the sensor 'see' the rise in tank temperature? have you checked your delta t on the indirect coil? are you getting proper flow rates across it? what is the water pressure in the home? could it be passing through the indirect too quickly and not allowing it to show a rise in temp? With the 2107 there is no way to turn off priorty when controlling your water heater through it, you would have to add your indirect zone to your isolation relay with priorty that controls the circs/ zone valves and that run it's course, but the 2107 should be able to handle this job. There's a ghost somewhere in this system! How about posting pics of this job on here that may help us to investigate.
