Tekmar 360 versus 362

I am working with a very helpful engineer(Who I've also sent this question to, and found here!) in designing a solution for my old gravity conversion.

During the process, he has spec'd a 4-way mixing valve solution, and suggested the Tekmar 362 for outdoor reset, valve control, and most importantly boiler protection.

While reading the manual for the 362, I also ran across the Tekmar 360 which seems like it could also be a good fit.

The 360 is significantly less expensive, and only seems to
sacrifice support for snowmelt, tNet, and variable
speed circulator control(all of which we aren't using).

I thought the 362 offered some additional boiler
protection sensing function with its "mixing return
sensor", but this sensor looks like it only sits on
return of the system(not boiler) and in the manual says "return from snow melting slab", not return on the boiler
loop. I guess this helps the 362 fine tune its curve
calculations, but wonder if it really applies to my
installation? In combination with this sensor, the
362 only uses a boiler supply sensor and outdoor temp sensor.

In contrast, the 360 doesn't have a "mix return" sensor, but has a "boiler sensor" that can be put on the supply or
return of the boiler.

Perhaps the "mix return" still would be used on my single zone return(even though not a snowmelt slab) and provides better data collection for the 362 verus 360?? If so, that is fine, but I thought I'd check if the 360 was just as good an application in my case.

No reason to spend extra if not required =)

Thanks,
Al

Tekmar 360 is fine for your application

I have used the Tekmar 360 lots of times and it works great. It seems like a good fit for what you are doing. When I'm controling a mixing valve I either use the 360, it I'm not doing DHW or the 363, if I'm also contoling an indirect tank. That is the main difference between those two.
I wouldn't use the 362 unless I was doing snow melt.
