    new boiler

I have a old weil mclain oil boiler with domestic coil on cast iron radiators with 2" mains. at one time it was a gravity system for the radiators. looking at replacing the boiler and going with a burnham MPO with indirect or going to nat gas and using triangle tube prestige solo 110 boiler with indirect. with todays high cost of oil I was looking at going to nat gas. would likt to zone the first floor and second floor and the indirect would be a third zone. would the system work better if I supplied the radiators with a 1" monoflow system with 1/2" going to the radiators?

    I love to

put a modulating condensing boiler on an old gravity system. The radiators are already over sized and can work at lower temperatures that help the boiler condense and save money. The Prestige is my favorite mod con. Very trouble free. If you are thinking of repiping to get rid of the 2 in supplys and return mains, my favorite method is to run a home run of pex tubing to each radiator from a manifold. I always use a radiant floor manifold. Did you know that 1/2 in pex can move 15,000 btuh per hundred ft of run? (remember to add supply and return for this)I trust you've had a room by room heat load done of the house, right? You can fine tune the balance between rooms with the balancing valves on the manifold when your done and not hit you head on those low hanging gravity pipes anymore. Good Luck. WW

    Nice job

How old is that install? I just saw that boiler for the first time at AHR in NY. I didn't think these had been out that long.

What was your impression of this unit? I have had a lot of success with the KN series from Hydrotherm and am anxious to try these new smaller units out.

knocking, banging and water coming out of valves

Since we replaced our boiler, our new boiler makes steam very quickly but now we have knocking, banging and water coming out of the valves. How can we resolve this.

Need help in Manhattan, NY. Building is 120 years old commercial and residential.
