Main Vents vs. Near-Boiler Piping
My heating contractor came by to take a look at my one-pipe counter-flow steam system, took a look at the owner's manual for the boiler and immediately said my near-boiler piping was not correct. The header is too low and is too small in diameter. This, he said, was causing wet steam. He said the near-boiler piping could be corrected, but that it would be a big deal and probably not worth it until the boiler is replaced (20 year old Weil-McLain EG-40). I agree with him on all counts. It is a bigger project than I want to get into at this time.
My question is, given known problems with near-boiler piping, is it still worthwhile to install main vents? My two mains have never been vented.0 -
Yes it is
go for it! This move will help you save up for a new boiler.
