Boiler OUTPUT Ratings

The IBR is typically 15% less from the DOE due to piping losses. If I am replacing a gravity type boiler with oversized uninsulated pipes, I will match the heat loss of the house to the boiler IBR rating, if the house is newer construction I may use the DOE rating.

Can someone explain to me under what circumstances does one use the DOE rating as opposed to the IBR rating or vice versa. Thanks

Thats a great article but it doesn't definitively answer my question. Can someone explain to me under what circumstances does one use the DOE rating as opposed to the IBR rating or vice versa. Thanks
