new mod con pics

The pump on the Ray is a 2 minute post purge pump to equalize the water temperature on shut down. It is the only time it is powered.

The Ray can take any return water temperature from the system and comes with a 21 year NON-prorated thermal shock warranty. NO by-pass piping needed.

I got the call about a dead boiler Thurs night. Worked until 9PM Friday and 7 tonight. Any comments? Suppliers closed today so there is an extra bushing here & there. Mestek is the parent company of Hydrotherm. This is a KN series, 200i. I put the cond drain on just before leaving...need to make one of those cool neutralizers...

    Sweet unit

I saw this for the first time at AHR in NYC at the Javitts.
This is a sweet boiler for the $$$!

I would choose this if priced out of the big V other than that .....
  • Wow, Where's the seat....

Looks like a Bugati Racing Machine. Sleek, clean and revvin' to go.

    I have been...

trying to sell one of these for a couple of months. The Smith rep. has been after me to install one. They are calling it the RAY.condensing cast iron. the RBI boiler control, lifetime warrty....it is heavy.. no need for a by pass. kpc

The bypass is factory installed between the supply & ret on the unit's right side. Controlled by boiler's controls. I installed a ODR sensor, and the ODR is built in. Sure runs soft & quiet! Fired right up, no leaks, first shot...this converted gravity system has 2 supplies & 4 returns...go figure. All we need now is either a chair or a boiler-cam...and some better lighting, of course! Maybe some spot lights on a dimmer to show it off better? Maybe play the Cars, Livin' in Stereo...

I know what you feel like.

Had a call Friday morning, one of two laar endurance boilers was out. We had talked about a replacement in the summer, but now was the time. Put in a Solo 250. Worked till 8 last night and 930 tonite. Got it running and will clean it up on Monday. Will post some pics then.

    Galvinized?

    Timco,
Are those galvinized fittings mixed in with the black iron & Copper? I think that I would change that, but that just me. I don't think I would use galvinized on anything at all. JMHO. Different looking boiler though. What is the turndown ratio on that boiler? I didn't get a chance to go to AHR Expo this year, and check out the new products.

    Wow

Very impressive looking. Looks like a space age robot. I like the read out telling you the percentage of modulation. That can be very useful info. WW

yeah, that's what i don't like. the jetsons' stuff isn't my cup of tea. yves st laurent boilers in a man cave? stay with plastic, but how about a faux cast iron cover?

4:1 Turn Down, Cast Iron Heat Exchanger accepts a 10 to 1 range of water flows. Flue passages 5 times the wall thickness of copper boilers. Advanced controls with self-diagnostics. Proven spark Igniter system with air cooled UV sensing self contained requires no field adjustments. Tru Flow control provides constant clean combustion at all firing rates and vent conditions. Low pressure drop through the heat exchanger CV=60. Whisper quiet operation
Direct vent 3" Cat IV, 100 feet equivalent vent. Small foot print less than 27" wide. Up to 98% eff.

I copied this from the hydrotherm site. Yes, galvi on the install, but got the heat on with just one cold night. Given the option, the customer and I both chose galvi over cold and the galvi will long outlast me should it stay.

    KN Boiler

We've installed three now, and every one has been flawless so far. I thought the turndown was 5 to 1 (200mbh - 40mbh), but I really like the 21 year heat exchanger warranty. The biggest challenge has been getting a 600lb boiler into the basement. We're installing another one next week for a snow melt system, but the lowest return water temp they recommend is 60 degrees F., primary/secondary with injection mixing I guess.

I think you are right about the turndown, my bad. What really kills me about this boiler (and I WILL be making some calls) is that there is NO internet info like install / owner manuals. Nothing. Period. The first owner of this boiler lost the manuals and here we are with no literature on a weekend and no way to get it. I did read the install manual when it was first bought, but I put that with the boiler and now it is gone and I have to find new ones. I can find info on a 1970 Valliant boiler, but not this cutting edge super boiler???

I agree. We just got the venting manual emailed to us Friday, still waiting for the boiler and control manuals.

    Steam heat nosey pipes

Ok, I have the fix, now how to apply it. How do I got about pitching 100 + year old pipes in my 3 decker home? I suppose I could start with the 21 radiators in the home!

Anyone do this type of work out there?

Thank you, sleepless in medford, ma

    Steam heat nosey pipes

I was told throughout the years that that was the problem. I have changed all valves on the radiators, no valves or bleeders on unit itself. I just tried to put a level on the pipes, the asbestos is to bumpy to get good reading.
  • AFUE

what is the AFUE rating on that boiler? Thanks, Bob Gagnon

    Noisy

Can anyone assist me in quieting these pipes? Steam heat, oil burners, I bleive it is because pipes are not pitched properly. But I love it if someone told me different. I am afraid to raise these pipes, house built in 1890.

    I think it looks great

And as we sell to a younger generation the " cool " factor needs to be taken into account . It kinda reminds of of the power suit Ripley was wearing in Aliens . I hope manufacturers of oil systems get in on the cool factor . If that was in my home I'd have to look at it everytime I was walking by .

    Very nice work Timco .

Speaking as a one man shop. This boiler just became less attractive to me. I ruptured a disk just reading the words 600 lbs. Youch! WW

    nice boiler

does it transform into a talking robot? Seriously though what size is that strut clamp holding the expansion tank to the strut. I cannot find one bigger than 8" but the amtrol tanks are 11" in diameter.

    strut strap

It is a PHD 2015 #10 IPS strut strap, if that helps. I just ask for #10 strap. I believe this boiler turns into starscream. (leader of the deceptagons)

Thanks for stepping in and clarifying. I like having companies keeping tabs on their products in forums like this one. Helps me know you guys care about what is being said/how the unit is performing. This one is doing very well as we speak. I will continue to offer / recommend them. Is there an on line source for literature? I would like to have a set of manuals of my own.
