bad gauge, bad pressure control. When is the last time it was services, at that time all above can be checked and cleaned. Also low water cutoffs should be cleaned also and combustion should be checked. Tim

    Steam pressure up

Our steam pressure used to be 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. Now it is 3 1/2 to almost 4! This is a one pipe steam system. This is an apartment building of about 10,000 square feet. What could cause this? This has never happened before. If tenants turned off too many radiators - could that keep the pressure up? What else would cause this.
    Thanks for your valuable help!!!

    Annual maint?

Tim's right on the money Diane. All of those things could be checked during an annual maintenance. By running those higher pressures you're actually slowing the steam delivery to your radiators as well as using more fuel than necessary. Get that thing a checkup, it's money well spent.

    Good luck, Rich L

The system is only a couple years old.

Yes, and they should have annual maintenance.

I agree with Tim and Rich

I would start with the pig-tail as the simplest thing to eliminate as a factor. If it is iron, replace it with brass or even better, red brass. It may be brass already and darkened from use, so a quick magnet test will tell if it is iron.

Blow it out and see. If that is all it is, well, cool.
