1-pipe line blockage

Possibly a sagging horizontal feed instead of blockage. If it is, the hose will do you no good. Examine all the pipes first for porper pitch.

i have one radiator fed by a 20 ft.x 11/4 riser which has a couple of short horizontals sections of pipe in it.the riser bangs so i think there is a partial blockage preventing the pipe from draining.
do you think i could attach a hose to the air vent tapping and flush the riser out with gentle hose pressure? one horizontal section is under the floor and the other is in the basement , so this is an alternative to cutting into the section i can get to and cleaning it out that way.unfortunately there is no union so i would have to saw the pipe out and pop the leftover threaded pieces out from the elbows without a lot of room to work between pipe and ceiling. any thoughts??--nbc

    banging rad

you need to raise the rad to get rid of sag in pipe use tiles or wood pieces make sure vent end is higher
  • i-pipe blockage

the radiator has been raised up 1/2 in. and slope checked.the visible horizontal run in the basement is also sloped reasonably well.
that's why i thought of a blockage--perhaps from 1999 when i put stop leak in the old american standard to "get me through the winter"[which i did 7 more winters before puting in the new peerless 211 a!!] this riser is the first off the main from the boiler so it could have "inhaled" the boilover of the stop leak.

Had that before. If the horiz pitch is OK, perhaps the rad is venting too quick. Have you tried slowing it a bit?
NOT at the hand-valve(should be wide open), but the venting rate itself.
