Need Help In Indiana Contracter Bailed

I have a recently installed Dunkirk boiler for in-concrete that was installed with incorrect near boiler piping. After several posts here we concluded that a Taco RMB-1 would correct the problems. He drug his feet but did order the RMB.

Since this has been going on now for 2 months, yesterday I told him that I expected that since he had the part the work was to be complete by Friday February 15.

He stopped by today and told me that he wanted out of the job and could not/would not install the RMB. I thought he was coming to work up a BOM for the install next week.

I asked for a full refund which he was only willing to give if they took out the boiler. Obviously no heat is not an option so I asked that it be a full refund minus the cost of the boiler.

I am looking for opinions from you great folks about what I should do and a competent installer.
Thanks

    Where RU located in Indiana?
  • Are you the guy,

with the older radiant system and the new Dunkirk boiler I saw pics of?

Unless you are an impossible person to get along with, I(like others), thought the RMB was the answer to your problem.
Remember though, this is ONLY the internet, we are NOT there.

Yep, I'm the guy. No I'm not impossible to get along with quite the opposite. After waiting 2 months and providing all of the information I just felt it was time to set a deadline.

He just basically said he didn't know how to install or support the RMB and he just wanted to "cut my losses". So now I've got to find someone with the knowledge and skills to get it properly installed.
  • Awe Hell,

your prob didn`t really seem THAT bad. The worst thing this guy did was turn it down!
Is there another heating contractor in your area you could find?
The wall is always here to help.

It didn't seem like that big of a deal to accomplish. I was very reasonable and patient with him. I am now considering whether or not to keep the boiler and deduct his cost from the refund or to have it removed and replaced I doubt there is much if any damage to it in 2 months.

I have appointments with 2 contractors first part of next week. I sure wish I had found this board before the initial install. I think that I can evaluate the new prospective contractors a lot better based on the generous information sharing that goes on here.

    John,

while the RMB might be an answer, it is also possible that it is not an answer.

there is slightly more to injection mixing that was not discussed at the time, while it is true the mixing block is a great product it like anything else has its limits.

were that not the case , there would not be other products on the market that are designed to meet higher heat losses. Nott all construction is the same level of integrity were that not true insulators would be out of a job. there were other suggestions made in a way, because no one has there amazing seeing eye back from the optometrist just yet it may very well be possible that it would not meet the requirements of your system. say just for clarification that you wanted to install the RMB based on the idea that you needed 120K BTU h distributed within your home well you would "Luck out" buh what if you needed more than that and found the system side just was not keeping up>...then you would think" those so called professionals TOLD me to install this product and they were all WRONG. Buderus makes a block for example that will move 420K...why not install that ? now you think" Hmmmm. so and so Told me to lash up a magic box with wires and outdoor reset that has greater capabilities he was probably right"... so then what? you tell the guy "Hey! i am hating this RMB ( a perfectly fine product when used within its ability) you need to rip it out and install some other thing?
You really need to get a grip on what is going on sometimes We all get quiet messages that tell us to be still and know that i am God...perhaps your installer feels this and correctly is refraining from being mistaken again and having you place some new demand on his time...

if he is not comfortable in installing an injection system that requires re piping the existing system it may be worth your efforts to pick up some of the other ideas that were given at the time and consider them with a little more value as to what was being said.

everyone makes mistakes, he may have thought that the existing system "Worked" and did not think that he would have to charge you more Time and materials to meet your needs by re installing another boiler and leaving the existing piping as is sort to speak...from what i recall though there are things that went by bye which preformed certain functions relevant to the systems performance...

who what when when where why or How it came to those changes we do not know,...

A RMB is like any other product we use. correct in certain applications. Trust this much of what i say, it is not some magic box that makes every bodies problems go away.

go with the idea of either finding someone else to do the work or go forward with some degree of caution as to what you do next.

i have to apologize for not mentioning the RMB , because i am aware of certain grey areas of what was originally presented.these points of interest where such that while i considered mentioning it i also considered other questions that were open to interpretation.

  • Somethings wrong,

as soon as I find the prob,,I`ll be back.
Somehow your post became interwoven with mine. Don`t know how that happened.

I guess I should have been more clear. He came up with the RMB after working with the tech staff at the local distributor. What really needs corrected is the near boiler piping because as of now there is no primary/secondary at all and output/return temps are nowhere close to where they need to be. I agree that the RMB might be a solution. The only thing I need is near boiler piping that is correct. If the RMB is part of the solution fine but I sure did not make it a requirement.
