Cast Iron Radiators won't cool

The new baseboard should be on its own zone and separate piping from the CI Rads. The CI Rads take longer to heat up and cool down than CFT baseboard. (Cast iron has a much higher mass than copper fin tube)

I'd add TRV valves to the CI Rads and a Tekmar control to modulate system water temperatures. This will give you far more control over the setpoint temperature than what you have now using just a thermostat. BTW, Scott Milne works on the Cape...you can find him under "Find a Pro".

    heating problems cast iron radiators

I have a 1806 home on Cape Cod. I recently added on about 1600 sq feet with the same boiler (plumbers said it would be ok). The additions with the new baseboard heating are working fine my problem is with the old cast iron radiators. I put the home on 68 it goes up to 72 and stays there for 5 hours or so then regulates. You cannot turn the heat down at night because it will not cool quick enough then when it finally cools its morning you turn it back to 68 and the heat goes to 72, it is a never ending cycle.
The plumber has changed everything from expansion tank to thermostat to valves any ideas? He's now paid and says the system is working fine, that's just how the radiators heat. I know this isn't right because I've lived with cast iron my whole life.
    Thanks

    Sorry Paul and olo...

    Wrong Cape !

We're on Cape Ann, a long trip through the Big Dig and related roadways...away. However...If you'd be willing to consider waiting until sometime in mid June/early July...I'd be willing to take the trip down for some R and R (Radiation and repairs), and some great striper fishing...if the boss says O.K.!!!
