    NTI MATRIX

Hi, Does Anyone have any Experience with the NTI Matrix Total home SYSTEM ?? Currently i "make" my own Hydro air systems using a Baxi and a air handler, Works great, Also gives Hot water! But with labor cost and everything around this i rather just "Plug and Play". So, what's with the NTI system? or are there Comparable systems available ???Thanks for any input. Matrix

It's the only one that we know of, and it also includes the HRV! We haven't put one in yet, but I'm sure we'll try a few soon. The Matrix makes the install look super clean, and the consumer won't be intimidated by a collection of pumps and valves.

    Matrix --

Just finished -- well, almost finished -- putting one in my house. After two years of living with an ugly, noisy 30 year old furnasty in our new home we were finally able to upgrade. It's quiet, the integral heat exchanger makes enough hot water for showers (not for the tub, I'm afraid -- at least not without storage, which I may add later) and it also has a heat recovery ventilator built in.

I'll be hooking up some panel rads for the basement and some floor warming for the upstairs shortly.

The programming requires some thinking and some math, especially when programming the HRV, but overall it's one slick piece of equipment. The forced-air portion has 10-setp modulation, and you can select from three separate heating profiles -- 12,000 to 66,000 BTUH (300-800 CFM) 15,500 to 79,000 BTUH (400-1000 CFM); and 18,500 to 92,000 BTUH (500-1200 CFM).

The DHW function is sorta like an instantaneous. The Matrix comes with a flow switch that will put the boiler into DHW mode at 0.5GPM. I've noticed a bit of a wait on occasion for DHW, but there's a function in the programming that might help that. (It's a big manual that's somewhat ambiguous at times).

The guys who did the sheetmetal (Hilpipre Heating and Air, Faribault, MN) did a nice job shoe-horning the unit in place. Jim Hilpipre and I did the plumbing (he let me use his ProPress tool -- very slick; and I taught him how to solder). Still have some hydronic piping to do, but all in all, I'm very happy with it.

Let me dig out my camera and I'll take some pictures...

e-mail me if you have any specific questions, but I'll give the unit a thumbs up.

John ,Thank you for all that info, some pix will be great! Do you know if the "room Stat" is used to Program the Boiler,i.e. Fan speed Adjustments. Like on the Baxi luna?

    Room stat...

Yeah, the control learns from the room stat...based on how long it takes to satisfy at different temperatures and fan speeds. I'm still trying to decipher to manual and the operation, but it seems to be a pretty sophisticated package.

You can download the manual and a powerpoint training presentation from their website:

I'll get to some pictures...but first we have this Super Bowl thing to attend to!

    Later...

Combustion Adjustments are made on the gasvalve (Not by adjustment via Combustion blower fan speed as like the baxi)I've heard that they have been around in Canada for some time now,One thing that I've got concerns about is that they allow for 20 feet of external venting given you have 1/2" pitch /foot. What's your thoughts on this at -20 F(Possible Freezing of Exhausts ??. HM
