Tuesday we hit nearly 65F before a late afternoon severe thunderstorm with significant wind damage and a tornado just a few miles away. Within 3 hours, the temp dropped about 45F!
Today, tonight and tomorrow we're under a heavy snow warning! Snow just started--big flakes and rapidly increasing in intensity--is already sticking to roads and from the looks of the sky, it's here to stay for quite a while. Worst-case forecast is for the snow to change over to freezing rain for a few hours this afternoon with extremely heavy snow after. I love snow, but don't care for the ice...0 -

We're looking at some possible snow, sleet freezing rain here in eastern Pa, With temps going up to almost 60 by Tuesday. Gotta love global warming, it's killing the snow plow business.0 -
Thunder Snow...
In February? I've lived here for 55 years. I have seen thunder snow before, but usually in the early fall or late spring. NEVER in the middle of winter.
Happened to be sitting in front of the living room window, watching TV last night, when there was a flash so intense it felt like the power of the sun. 5 seconds later there was this horrendous BOOM. It was so intense, I thought the window would break, and it shook my body. My first thought was that someone had set off a dirty bomb. I got up, and ran to the front door, opened it up and saw the gigantic flakes of snow falling to the earth. That immediately put the dirty bomb theory to sleep.
Right then, it happened again. And, being from the place with the 2nd highest death toll from lightning, I am familiar with the usual flash bang, rolling thunder scenarios, and this was like nothing you've ever seen. It was like SUPER Lightning. It wasn't the usual single jagged bolt. It was omni present, and the thunder that followed was the loudest BOOM I've have ever experienced in my 55 years on this planet,,, Shook my body and made my heart skip a beat.
I just keep thinking back to Art Buchwald's last dieing words when asked what he was going to miss the most on this planet, and he replied "Global warming. I want to see what you all are going to do when the weather changes..."
30 minutes later, after the earth shattering lightining, the sky was clear and the stars shone brightly...
BIZARRRE...

Thunder snow is very rare here, but I seem to recall it happening only in the middle of winter.
Tesla chose Colorado Springs for his major experiments for good reason. He insisted we could tap into the source that produces lighting--anytime--day or night--and anywhere in the world...0 -
global warming
We got near 6 feet of global warming here in N. Idaho,I believe a glacier is forming in my back yard.0 -
I've seen mild thunder snow ME
but nothing like you describe.
I'm a relative novice compared to yourself, but...
if I thought a dirty bomb went off outside my house, I'd wonder if running to open the door was a good idea.
Just a thought;-) Kevin0
