Crawl Space Access
Man with a question
Member Posts: 69
I've been asked to install a UNICO air handler in a crawl space above a laundry room.
My understanding of applicable codes is that in an attic 30"or higher one needs:
1) A platform
2) A 30" square access opening
3) A pull down ladder
4) A permanent light
5) A smoke alarm remotely audible in the structure
This crawl space measures about 25" high. High enough to comply with mfgrs requirements. High enough to poke one's head up into the space, service the electronics and coil, but definitely not large enough to get up into.
What is required by code in this case?
Can anyone find the applicable UMC page -- just in case I get 4 divergent answers. (It happens)
Thanks much.
Jacob
