    Today would be James Jamerson's 70th birthday. He is that signature bass sound heard on almost every Motown recording from '59 to '73. There are stories of Jamerson being so drunk he couldn't stand, but could still lay on the floor and record some of the most memorable bass lines. He passed away at the ripe old age of 45 from pneumonia.

    THE best...

    bass player to ever walk the planet! he wrote the bass line to "what's going on" drunk and flat on his back. I've been playing my whole life and I can't begin to put the feeling into it that he could. Anybody can play notes, very few can play music like he did.
