San Francisco Boiler Accident

Anyone heard any other details? Collapsed?? Trapped in???

Very odd...

Perhaps the report is just using incorrect nomenclature. After all, how many times have we heard of people reported to have been electrocuted by XXX *volts* of electricity.

Or maybe someone was climbing around on some old equipment and a tank of some sort did collapse??

SAN FRANCISCO -- Several people were trapped Monday afternoon in a collapsed boiler inside of the former Pacific Gas and Electric Co. building in San Francisco, fire officials said.

A call at about noon reported some sort of boiler accident that trapped several people, fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said. At least one person has escaped with life-threatening injuries, and two to three people were trapped and awaiting rescue.

Firefighters and emergency personnel were en route to the scene, she said.

They are saying one person has died, and now are specifically referring to the victims as "workers".

I wonder if there was some sort of demo going on, that went badly?

What I suspected, a demo accident. Poor folks.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A five-story boiler being demolished in an abandoned Pacific Gas and Electric Co. power plant in San Francisco's Hunter Point neighborhood collapsed Monday, killing one worker, severely injuring another and trapping a third.

Authorities said the workers had been hired by the utility to remove the large structure. They had tied cables to the boiler, but it collapsed prematurely, raining debris down upon the workers.

Fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said one person had been removed from the building with life-threatening injuries and another worker remained trapped inside and firefighters were attempting to rescue him.

She said a third worker had been killed.

    Demo

It's been my experience that removing heavy items is hundredfolds more dangerous than hoisting/installing them.
