Once my boiler has been running for a while, the vents open again and keep hissing. This is after they have initially closed. What causes this?
I have a one pipe steam system.

the line....
must have cooled down just enough to allow thw bi-metal vent to open back up. Then the steam hits it again and it closes...kpc0 -
Vents
When the vents start hissing for the second time, has the burner in the boiler turned off or is it still running?
When this happens the second time, do they keep hissing constantly, or does it stop after a few seconds or minutes?
When this happens, does steam actually discharge from the vents into the room, or are they just hissing with no steam discharge?

1. When they hiss a second time the boiler is still running.
2. The vents seem to keep hissing.
3. The vents seem to be hissing with no steam discharge.
