Dryheads replacing a steamer

Would you suggest then doing a drop on the single 3" pipe out of the new boiler? My art isn't good but I drew what I think you are saying.
Also, do you boys know if this old American Radiator boiler has asbestos in it?

A few questions
Looking at replacing a relic boiler on a 1 pipe steam system that worked fine til the boiler started leaking. Based on radiation, looking at a Smith GB200-4H. Questions are:
Their manual drawing shows header minimum of 12" above top of boiler but in the text it says 24". Anybody know which is correct?
The current water line is 45" off the floor. That would be difficult to do, chances are with the boiler on the floor, the water line would be closer to 26".
The guy at the supply house thinks we need a feed unit on the return since our new boiler holds less water. Never done that before but never done a 1 piper before although he didn't know it was 1 pipe.0 -
new boiler
you will not need a feed pump as to the water level that will not be an issue just match the boiler for the connected load and follow the boilers piping diagrams you didnt say where you are located0 -
John, perhaps there is some confusion about what is being specified. I don't know about Smith, but my normal water line is 22 5/8 off floor. Header is shown as min 24" higher than the normal water line. Not top of boiler. That 24" higher than water line might also be only be 12" above the top of the boiler.

Thank you gentlemen
We're in Indiana.
Yes, reading it closer the water line if the boiler is on the floor is 23.25" off the floor, currently 45". If what the manual meant to say was header 24" above the water line, that makes sense.
The Smith just has one 3" outlet since we aren't dealing with a real big boiler. Do we just plug the tee for the 2nd one?0 -
Thanks Noel
