Fresh Start New Gas Boiler System Recommendations

Since my contractor bailed out I have gotten several recommendations for the right contractor for the job. They are coming the first part of the week. Since this is a fresh start I have several question. The system is an single loop inconcrete radiant with no DHW and gas fuel. The house is 1450 square feet. The Slant Fin heat calculator heat loss to be 48500.

1. Should I keep the Dunkirk Extreme that is one size too large and just have the near boiler piping scheme corrected with appropriate controls?

2. Is there a better boiler for about the same money?

3. I have not seen it discussed here but I have heard of efficient hot water heaters being used for in-floor radiant systems. Is this a big no no?
Thanks for all the help so far.

    Big no no

I my book using a inst.waterheater for a heat source is a big no no. I have seen to many problems with this setup. Just use the right boiler for the right job, I Personally like the Viessmanns/Baxi luna and the Triangle tube Prestige.

    you can do bettter.

same money? Prob. not. Although if you go condensing you won't need to mix down...think of that and the money you will save.( no RMB needed)
Lots of options w/ those...Smith, Weil- Mclain, Buderus, Burnham, Lochinvar, munchkin...etc
Don't do the tankless water heater thing. waste of money. It is designed to heat domestic water not heat a slab...
  • Lochinvar

Lochinvar has a wall hung that will match your heat loss. If cost is a concern check into rebates from your local gas provider on high efficiency equiptmnet. In Massachusetts home owners can get up to 1000$ back on the install of anything over 90% efficient.
