dan, just so you know, they have remote actuators for trv's. valve installs as usual,remote "stat" has a cap tube to run outside of enclosure and sense temp of room. but before you spend any $$$, have you tried to throttle down the hand valve? might be all you need. hope this helps. rob

Putting thermostatic valve on steam radiator (2 pipe)
We have a 2 pipe steam heat system. The bedroom radiator is inside a wooden radiator cover. We would like to have a thermostatic valve placed on the radiator as it gets way too hot in the bedroom. Do we need a special valve that has a remote sensor as this radiator is in the enclosure? Thanks.

Yes.
Consider the application - do you care that the interior space (of the radiator cover) is a comfortable temp? Of course not! You want the room to be comfortable.
