Copper Pipes / Steam Heat

Greetings All.

Bought our first home last June... this is obviously our first NJ winter with our own steam heat. Bought Dan's book, "We Got Steam Heat..." and have learned a lot. Also learning that we have issues w/ our 1-pipe system.

I have copper risers that connect to a copper header. This then attaches to a steel connector that then splits into two steel mains that feed the house. No main air vents or noticeable plugs near the ends of the mains.

I'm assuming I should have the copper pipes removed & replaced with steel. In the meantime, should I try to insulate them with fiberglass? In addition, some of the colder rooms/bathrooms have copper piped base boards. These definitely do not retain heat like our cast iron radiators. Should the copper baseboards be replaced with radiators or is there a better (smaller) alternative that will provide more long lasting heat?

I'm assuming I should have someone place main air vents prior to next winter, too.

Thanks in advance.
